ABOUT UTANO
Health information and personal record keeping, with you in control.
Utano is a Hanai mobile app for girls and boys aged 10+ to explore health information, find support in its directory, and keep personal health records. You create an anonymous account with a name so your profile, preferences, and records can be available on the devices you use.

Privacy Policy
This Privacy Policy explains how Hanai Inc. ("Hanai", "we", "us", or "our") handles information when you use the Utano mobile app. It applies to the app and the services it provides, not to websites, services, or providers you may reach through a directory listing or link in the app.
Information we handle
- Account and profile information. Utano creates an anonymous account and stores a unique account identifier, the name you provide, and the date the account was created. You may also choose to add your phone number, email address, and sex to your profile.
- Health records you create. If you use the Health Record feature, we process the title, description, and creation and update dates of the record. Health information can be sensitive; please include only information you are comfortable storing in the app.
- Preferences and app content. We store your language preference and locally cache health content and directory results to make the app available and useful.
- Technical information. Firebase services used to operate, secure, and connect the app may process technical information necessary for those services, such as device, app, and network information.
Why we use information
We use the information above to create and maintain your anonymous account, display and update your profile and preferences, store and retrieve the health records you choose to create, provide health content and directory results, secure the app, and respond to questions or problems you send us. Where required by applicable law, we rely on your consent, the need to provide the service you request, and our legitimate interest in keeping Utano reliable and secure.
Where information is stored and who processes it
Utano uses Firebase Authentication and Cloud Firestore, services provided by Google, to provide anonymous sign-in and store account, preference, and health-record data. The app also keeps local copies of relevant content and records on your device to support the app's operation. Google processes information as a service provider for these Firebase services. We do not sell or rent your personal information, and we do not use health-record content for advertising.
Sharing
We share information only as needed to operate Utano through the service providers described above, to comply with applicable law or a valid legal process, or to protect the rights, safety, and security of users, Hanai, and others. Directory listings are intended to help you find services; contacting a listed organisation is your choice and is governed by that organisation's own privacy practices. We do not make your health records available to directory listings or other Utano users.
Retention and security
We keep account, preference, and health-record information while it is needed to provide Utano and for legitimate operational, security, and legal purposes. We use reasonable administrative, technical, and organisational safeguards designed to protect information. No internet or mobile service can guarantee absolute security, so please protect access to your device and avoid sharing your account information.
Your choices and rights
You can review and update profile information in the app and delete individual health records as described below. Depending on where you live, you may have rights to request access to, correction of, or deletion of personal information, or to object to or restrict certain processing. To make a request or ask a privacy question, contact us at the address in the Contact section. We may need to verify your request before acting on it.
Young users
Utano is designed to make health information accessible to girls and boys aged 10 and above. If you are a parent or guardian and believe a child has provided personal information contrary to local law or without required consent, contact us so we can review the request.
Changes to this policy
We may update this Privacy Policy when our practices or legal obligations change. We will post the updated version on this page and change the "Last updated" date. If a change materially affects how we handle information, we will provide additional notice when required by law.
Terms of Service
These Terms of Service govern your use of Utano. By downloading, accessing, or using the app, you agree to these terms. If you do not agree, do not use Utano.
Utano is not medical care
Utano provides general health information, a directory, and tools for personal record keeping. It does not provide medical diagnosis, treatment, medical advice, or emergency services, and using it does not create a doctor-patient or other clinical relationship with Hanai. Do not delay seeking professional advice because of information in the app. If you think you may have a medical emergency, contact local emergency services or a qualified healthcare professional immediately.
Your account and information
You are responsible for the information you add to Utano and for keeping access to your device secure. Provide accurate information and do not use another person's identity or access their information without permission. You may use the app only where you are legally able to accept these terms and in compliance with applicable law.
Acceptable use
You must not misuse Utano. In particular, you must not:
- use the app for unlawful, fraudulent, or harmful activity;
- attempt to gain unauthorised access to the app, accounts, data, or systems;
- interfere with the security, availability, or normal operation of Utano;
- copy, reverse engineer, modify, or distribute the app except where applicable law does not allow that restriction; or
- use directory information to harass, spam, or otherwise harm any person or organisation.
Content and third-party services
Health content and directory listings are provided for general information and may change or become unavailable. A listing, link, or reference to a provider, product, or service is not an endorsement or guarantee by Hanai. You are responsible for deciding whether to contact or use a third-party service, and its separate terms and privacy policy will apply to your relationship with it.
Our rights and the app licence
Hanai and its licensors own the app, its software, design, and content, except for information you provide. Subject to these terms, Hanai gives you a personal, limited, non-exclusive, non-transferable, revocable licence to use Utano for its intended purpose. This licence does not transfer ownership of any intellectual property to you.
Availability, disclaimers, and liability
We work to keep Utano available and accurate, but the app and its content are provided on an "as available" basis. To the maximum extent permitted by applicable law, Hanai disclaims warranties that are not expressly stated in these terms, including warranties of accuracy, availability, fitness for a particular purpose, and non-infringement. Nothing in these terms excludes liability that cannot lawfully be excluded or limited.
To the maximum extent permitted by law, Hanai is not liable for indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages, or for decisions made in reliance on information or directory listings in Utano. Your statutory consumer rights remain unaffected.
Suspension, termination, and updates
We may suspend or end access to Utano when reasonably necessary to protect users, comply with law, address a security issue, or enforce these terms. We may also update the app or these terms as it evolves. Continued use after the updated terms take effect means you accept them, where permitted by law. If you do not agree with an update, stop using the app.
Deleting data
The option to delete an individual health record is available in the Utano app.
